Writing:

Reading:

Discussion:
You can setup whether an user needs to create an account before commenting, duration of the comments to be expired, comment thread and whether you want to moderate the comments before going it to public.
Media:
You can setup the image thumbnail size of your website for posts and pages. Also you can specify how the uploaded images will be organized in the host like day, moth, year .
Permalinks:
Here you can setup the permalinks as you like. There are many options for it, just look at the screenshot below you will get a clear idea.
Privacy:
You can set here which page should be used as Privacy page. When installing WordPress, it creates 2 pages by default 1) Sample page and 2) Privacy . The privacy page is saved as Draft by default but you can later edit and publish.
